LG Optimus Black release date confirmed as May 14

Smartphones running Google’s open source Android platform are now more popular than those running Apple’s iOS according to consumers in the US. Thirty-one percent of Americans looking to purchase a smartphone in January – March 2011 stated they wanted a device running Android, up from 26 percent in July – September 2010.

Nielsen: Consumer Desire For Android Grows, Unlike iOS And Blackberry

Nielsen ran monthly surveys of mobile consumers in the United States from July to September 2010, and stated back then that 33 percent expressed interest for an Apple iPhone, while slightly more than a quarter (26 percent) stated they desired a device with Android and 13 percent stated they wanted a Blackberry device.
